Project Africa

Project: 500kW/1MWh

In Zimbabwe, Africa, there is a blueberry farm suffering from an unstable power supply and high electricity costs. An independent energy network becomes what the owner of the farm has been yearning to build, deep in the darkness to brightness.

So here comes AlphaESS, which has designed and commissioned a new energy storage solution of 1MWh container project for this farm, bringing steady and cheap electricity to power the freezers and irrigation pumps for the packhouse in this farm. Combined with the diesel generator, the solar-storage-diesel system successfully operates off-grid to help grow blueberry and crops better for a harvest and green season.

Recently, an energy storage system done by Aptech Africa and Peak Power Pvt. Ltd. was accomplished for the HQ UNICEF in Kathmandu.

The system is a 50kW/60kWh Alpha ESS Storion T50 connected with 42 kW PV that provides a building integrated outdoor recreation area for the UN staff to enjoy. The system runs critical loads from solar PV, with 24/7 uninterruptible power supply. It also provides battery backup for critical loads in the event of grid outage, the system will accept site generator power to power loads and charge batteries if necessary.

Qiqian is a quiet village in the deep birch forest of the Greater Khingan Mountains, northeast China. The lush trees make this place a paradise while sometimes a hell cursed by a forest fire. A troop of firefighters came and stationed in the depths of the deserted forest all the year-round, guarding the ecosystem of the place.

Picturesque, peaceful but unplugged, life in Qiqian is not so easy for the firefighters. Freezing for nine months every year, the temperature even drops to minus 40 degrees Celsius, it would be a nightmare during the blackouts. A heat pump is a vital requirement here while diesel power is not a cost-effective choice for the expensive materials and logistics, not to mention the pollution to the environment.

So here comes the Alpha Soldier, bringing a complete off-grid energy solution with solar energy storage and diesel generator, for the water heating system. This energy system includes 250kWp photovoltaics and 650kWh batteries. When the sun is shining brightly during the day, solar power will be turned into electricity to supply the basic appliances, and the excess charges the battery for the nights or some snowy days.

Once the SOC reaches a pre-set value, the EMS sends a signal to the diesel engine, which acts as a backup power supply, to automatically initiate to power the loads and charge the battery to a set point. This entire system guarantees an uninterrupted power supply 7/24 hours.
